‘Almost Heavy-duty Petting’: Trump And His Allies Twist Jill Biden’s Kindness into Something Gross
Incoming president uses first lady in fragrance advertisement
Donald Trump and his allies on the political right have turned a moment of kindness between Trump and Dr Jill Biden into something much more untoward.
The incoming president and the first lady were seated together at the reopening of renovated Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris over the weekend, five years after a fire that devoured its roof and nearly collapsed its walls.
But images of Biden and Trump sharing a momentary pleasantry at one of the world’s most recognized monuments is being portrayed as something else — and shamelessly used by Trump himself.
The images show the first lady smiling at Trump, who was leaning in with a friendly look on his face.
It’s a moment that appears to capture the sort attitude both President Biden and his wife seem to be embodying since the election in which they are showing Trump some level of kindness as the winner of the vote.
However, a Trump ally on Fox News tried to make much more of it on air.
“Look, all those bad statements she made [about Trump] was before Kamala became the candidate. And I just wanted to go back inside the church for a minute, Molly. Take a careful look at that. That wasn’t nice conversation, that was outright flirtation,” said Larry Kudlow, who served as a White House official during Trump’s first term.
“Oh my goodness!” interjected co-host Harris Faulkner, before Kudlow finished with, “That was almost heavy-duty petting!”
How did Trump, himself, repay the first lady’s kindness?
By using her — without permission — in a social media advertisement for the latest product Trump is hawking.
He announced his perfume and cologne line with a Truth Social post that showed a photo of Biden smiling at Trump with the tag line “A fragrance your enemies can’t resist.”
