‘And So It Begins’: Trump’s Controversial FBI Pick Threatens Critic With Legal Action
Patel angered over comments made about his fitness to lead law enforcement agency
Donald Trump’s choice to lead the FBI is threatening a prominent critic with legal action for what she said about him on TV.
Kash Patel’s attorney is demanding that Olivia Troye retract statements that she made about Patel in a recent appearance on MSNBC.
Troye, a staffer for former vice president Mike Pence during the first Trump administration, has emerged as an outspoken critic of Trump and his allies, even featured this summer as a speaker during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Patel is a longtime Trump loyalist without any relevant experience running a law enforcement agency.
But he’s widely seen as a lynchpin in carrying out Trump’s promises of retribution against his political adversaries.
Echoing remarks made by her former boss, Pence, Troye said that in a previous role in the first Trump administration Patel would lie about intelligence and put Navy SEALS at risk.
Troye believes Patel is unfit to be FBI director.
It’s those remarks that Patel and his attorney now are targeting.
Troye posted the letter from Patel’s attorney on her social media.
The threat of legal action against Troye is unusual for someone like Patel who requires Senate confirmation to hold his appointed position, especially when that legal action is demonstration of the kind propensity to political retribution being leveled against Patel in the first place.
Troye, however, remained defiant and refused to back down from her views.
“Today, Kash Patel sent a letter to my counsel @MarkSZaidEsq- threatening legal action & demanding that I retract my comments on MSNBC about his unfitness to serve as FBI Director. This aligns with his threats against the media & political opponents, revealing how he might conduct himself if confirmed in the role,” Troye posted on her social media. “I stand by my statements—my priority remains the safety & security of the American people. I am not the only one who has expressed concerns about him. So why me? And so it begins.”
