Anti-vaxxers Portraying Themselves As If Part of The Holocaust
"We have to cut this crap out. Learn the history. Fight hate," says TV journalist Dan Rather
Opponents of the COVID-19 vaccines are publicly portraying themselves with the iconography of the Holocaust of World War II.
These anti-vaxxers are wearing yellow stars as if to compare themselves with the 6 million Jews exterminated by the Nazis across Europe.
“Instrumentalizing the fate of Jews who were persecuted because of hateful antisemitic ideology and murdered in extermination camps like #Auschwitz with poisonous gas in order to argue against vaccination that saves human lives is a symptom of intellectual and moral degeneration,” according to a tweet from the Auschwitz Memorial.
Writer Chad Loder argues that consequences are necessary for such individuals.
“These people do not need '’history lessons'. They need consequences for their dangerous, hateful, antisocial behavior. Name and shame them and banish them from polite society,” Loder tweeted.
Longtime TV journalist Dan Rather said that he finds the use of Holocaust iconography at a time of rising antisemitism to be dangerous.
“We have a dangerous rise in antisemitism. Meanwhile we have anti-vaxxers wearing yellow stars. I was 14 years old when the concentration camps were liberated. The images I saw are seared in my memory. We have to cut this crap out. Learn the history. Fight hate. And #NeverForget,” he wrote.
