‘As Taylor Swift Moves Through the Room, the Local Economy Around Those Tables Improves’
Subject of deranged conspiracy theories, pop star feted at the Grammy Awards
Although she’s recently found herself unwittingly pulled into a series of bizarre conspiracy theories among those on the political right, Taylor Swift found nothing but love and adulation at this year’s Grammy Awards.
The attacks on Swift have been steadily building for weeks (see Fox News host Jesse Watters asking on his prime time program earlier this month if Swift is a “Pentagon asset,” for example).
But they reached a fever pitch as many on the right outlandishly claimed that the Super Bowl has been rigged so that the 34-year-old pop star and her football player boyfriend can somehow swoop in and endorse President Biden for reelection.
Swift was able to escape all the right-wing hate Sunday evening. Not only was she clearly enjoying herself at the 66th annual Grammy Awards, those at the event at the arena in Los Angeles were happy to show their love and appreciation right back.
“In fact, seven of the eight Album of the Year nominees are women. You've got SZA, you've got Olivia Rodrigo, you've got Lana del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Janelle Monáe. There’s a band that’s already won today, it's called Boygenius, it’s three women. That’s how good a year this was for women!” award show host Trevor Noah enthused. “Am I forgetting anyone on that list? Am I forgetting anyone? Oh, I don't know, maybe just the Person of the Year according to TIME Magazine and everyone else, Taylor Swift is going to be here, everybody!”
Noah lavished Swift — who has sold 200 million records — with appreciation, even as she and her entourage made their way through the crowd.
“You can tell that Taylor Swift is here. What? There she is. Look at this. Look at this. I say the names and they pop out. Taylor Swift, everybody,” Noah began, adding, “Are you seeing what’s happening right now? As Taylor Swift moves through the room, the local economy around those tables improves.
“Can you see that? Look at this magic right now. Look at this magic, huh?” Noah gushed.
Fellow pop star SZA also called out love for Swift when SZA got up to accept her award for Best R&B Song.
“Hi, Taylor,” she said to laughter in the arena. “I love you!”
Swift, herself, got up to accept two Grammys, for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album, in recognition of her album, Midnights.
