Bestselling Author Gives Up Novels To Go Into the Political Messaging Business
Don Winslow vows to self-fund his efforts
A best-selling author is trading plot for politics.
Don Winslow, behind such award-winning and internationally bestselling crime novels as, Savages, The Force, and the Cartel Trilogy, is vowing to get out of the business of fiction and launch a new initiative aimed at improving messaging to voters on behalf of the Democratic Party.
Winslow, who said that he has novels set for publication April 26, as well as in April 2023 and April 2024, will be his last.
“Democrats have better ideas, better candidates, and a better vision for tomorrow. What they don't have is better messaging and I’m going to try to change that,” Winslow said in a statement explaining his new plans.
The erstwhile crime author posted his statement to social media Saturday.
Winslow said that he didn't “make this decision lightly,” but is doing so in response to Trumpism continuing unchecked across the United States.
“Donald Trump was defeated in 2020, but Trumpism is a cancer that has metastasized across the country. I believe a more dangerous form of it will emerge after the November midterms,” he said.
Winslow said that he wants to see “real consequences for Trump, his family, and the enablers who share his cynical, soulless, corrupt and sub-literate worldview.”
He also has set a goal to create political videos which achieve 1 billion documented views.
“I'm going to create a series of political videos that hit hard, create change, and help win key races across the country,” he said in his statement.
Winslow said that he intends to self-fund the entire endeavor.
“I will be paying for everything myself and not accepting any donations,” he said in a tweet.
