Biden: ‘No Clear Evidence’ that Iran Is Behind Hamas Attack
Figures on the right have been insisting otherwise
There's “no clear evidence” that Iran helped plan the atrocities committed earlier this month against Israel by Hamas, according to President Biden.
Biden declared that Iran is not behind the massive terrorist attacks which have left a growing number of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians dead and as many as 150 Israelis and others taken hostage.
Prominent figures on the political right have been insisting that Iran was wrapped up in the Hamas, going as far as getting caught spreading falsehoods about $6 billion the Biden administration unfroze in a prisoner swap.
But, in a television interview with the CBS News program, 60 Minutes, Biden was unequivocal.
Asked if Iran was behind the recent Hamas terrorism, Biden replied, “I don’t want to get into classified information, but to be very blunt with you, there’s no clear evidence of that.”
“At this point no evidence that Iran is behind any of this?” journalist Scott Pelley pressed.
“Correct,” Biden replied. “Now, Iran constantly supports Hamas and Hezbollah, I don’t mean that, but in terms of did they have foreknowledge? Did they help plan the attack? There’s no evidence of that at this point.”
