Biden Pushes Back On Inflation
President blames Republicans for blocking solutions
President Biden spoke out forcefully Tuesday, both to acknowledge high inflation and tell the American public that — although he and his administration have offered various solutions — it's been congressional Republicans blocking those solutions for partisan political purposes.
In some of his strongest rhetoric yet, Biden acknowledged the pain that the American people are suffering, as a result of sharply rising prices for fuel and other consumer goods.
In the midst of his continuing deep unpopularity among the American people, Biden attempted to strongly point the finger at Republicans as to why more isn't being accomplished to ease the financial burden many Americans are shouldering.
“The problem is that Republicans in Congress are doing everything that they can, to stop my plans to bring down costs on ordinary families,” Biden said at a gathering of the AFL-CIO labor federation. “That's why my plan is not finished, and why the results aren't finished, either.
“Jobs are back, but prices are too high. COVID is down, but gas prices are up. Our work isn't done, but here's the deal: America still has a choice to make. A choice between a government by the few, for the few. Or a government for all of us,” the president added. “Democracy for all of us. An economy where all of us have a fair shot, and a chance to earn our place in the economy.”
Biden remains deeply unpopular, as measured by approval ratings which have indicated more disapproval than approval for nearly a year now.
He's fighting for his political future as congressional Democrats head into this year's midterm elections when they will be fighting uphill to hold on to slender majorities in the House and Senate.
