Biden: We Now Have ‘the Strongest Economy in the Whole Damn World!’
President celebrates union endorsement in Michigan
A clearly ebullient President Biden touched down in Michigan to revel in his recent endorsement by the United Auto Workers (UAW) as well as campaign in a battleground state which will be crucial to his hopes for reelection in November.
Biden gathered with UAW members Thursday at a union hall in Warren, Mich., where he sang the praises of organized labor and touted his accomplishments as president.
The head of the nearly century-old union last month endorsed Biden for reelection.
“We now have — in large part because of you and organized labor — the strongest economy in the whole damn world,” Biden said, to cheers and applause. “We do. We do. In the whole world.
“Inflation is coming down. Jobs are growing. We created 800,000 manufacturing jobs. Remember they told us we were dead — manufacturing is dead in America and China was going to eat our lunch? Well, guess what, man? We don’t taste that good,” he added, to laughter. “So, look, folks, I really mean it. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And the whole country owes you. They really owe you.”
And Biden got some support for his positive view of the US economy from an unexpected source.
Larry Kudlow, the Fox Business host and one-time economic adviser to Donald Trump, offered an earnest “mea culpa” on his program Thursday for having predicted a looming recession – or even a slowdown.
“About the month of January alone. This is from Challenger, Gray. Total jobs lost 82,307. Finance jobs lost 23,000, tech jobs lost 15,000, food-producing jobs lost, and in general, other surveys have shown the same thing. In fact, one survey shows in tech overall last year lost 260,000 jobs,” Kudlow said. “Now I say it and I think the spirit you sent it to me. Unemployment remains low and most of these monthly job gains are pretty good. So what’s up with these layoffs?”
