Both Biden and Trump Are Worried About RFK Jr., Fmr Senator Says
Independent candidate could hurt either major-party nominees
President Biden and Donald Trump both are worried that independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr could hurt him in this year’s election, according to a former Democratic senator.
Trump released a video rant blasting RFK Jr, calling his anti-vaccine views “fake” like “everything else about his candidacy.”
The son of the late Democratic presidential hopeful, Robert Kennedy, RFK Jr is mounting an independent bid for the White House after previously running unsuccessfully against Biden in the Democratic primaries.
A conspiracy theorist and known opponent of vaccines, RFK Jr is running despite his famous political family publicly renouncing his candidacy and endorsing Biden for reelection.
Pollsters and others have been trying to figure out if RFK Jr hurts Biden or Trump more, politically.
Based on his unhinged diatribe against RFK Jr Thursday, it’s clear that he’s rattled Trump.
“Yeah, remember when Trump still talked about developing the vaccine at rallies, and he got booed and he finally figured out that this is a place that the cult was not going to go with him on how quickly he claimed he developed a vaccine during the pandemic? Yeah, he’s worried. He’s worried,” said Claire McCaskill, a political analyst for MSNBC and a one-time Democratic senator from Missouri. “I thought the part of the clip that was astounding to me says Biden is better than Bobby Jr. He actually said Biden is better. That’s interesting, that he would do that.
“I think that was a momentary fail in his normal way of communicating. I think both Biden and Trump are worried about RFK,” McCaskill added. “Now, I think as this goes on and Bobby Kennedy gets more and more exposed for some of the Crazytown stuff he has said, for his, frankly, not being up front about some of his issues in his life, I think he will fade.
“But people need to remember, this is an election where nobody likes — well, most people don’t like their choices, and that’s just not — it’s not an abnormal thing. You know, people — there’s a lot of people, by the time election rolls around, and presidentials, they will say to you, I have heard it a thousand times, ‘I don’t like either one of the candidates,’” she added. “So, having a third-party name out there that people recognize is a danger to both of these guys.”
