‘Both Trump And Musk Have Had To Respond’: Republicans Notice ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ Tour
More than 100,000 Americans have turned out to massive rallies
The barnstorming tour across the country, led by Sen Bernie Sanders, aimed at opposing Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s actions in the federal government have been so popular and well-received that Republicans — particularly Trump and Musk — have taken notice.
That’s according to the Vermont independent who has been speaking in front of huge crowds in recent months across the Midwest and western United States, alongside fellow progressive lawmaker, Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
The pair’s “Fighting Oligarchy” has made stops in Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, Nevada and elsewhere. In all, more than 100,000 Americans have been to the rallies, according to Sanders, including 34,000 just at the event in Denver, Colo.
The lawmakers oppose Trump and his billionaire benefactor and advisor, Musk, dismantling entire functions of the federal government and turning increasingly to authoritarianism.
The tour just resumed, with Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez speaking before a crowd in Los Angeles, Calif.
These events have been so popular as to attract attention, according to Sanders, who twice ran for president.
“Republicans — surprise, surprise — are taking notice. They are quite concerned,”Sanders said in a video released Saturday. “Trump and Musk have had to respond, and — not surprisingly — they’ve responded with lies.
“Mr Musk claimed that many of the 34,000 people who came out to our Denver rally were ‘paid organizers.’ And Trump was busy boasting — falsely — that his turnouts were always larger than ours. Not quite the case,” he added.
Sanders said that he and the other tour organizers are choosing the locations at which to stop carefully.
“Most of these events will be held in congressional districts that are represented by Republicans, and there is a reason why we are doing that,” he said.
Sanders outlined what he and Ocasio-Cortez hope to accomplish with all this travel.
“Number one: In these extraordinarily difficult and depressing times, I want people in the communities that we visit — and people throughout the country — to understand that they are not alone when they feel outraged by what Trump is doing to our country,” he said. “In fact, when they stand there amidst thousands and thousands of their neighbors in opposition to oligarchy, opposition to authoritarianism and xenophobia, and attacks on the working class they understand quite quickly that they are not part of some fringe minority who are opposing Trump.”
A strong majority of Americans want to move the nation in a very different direction, Sanders added.
Secondly, Sanders said, the purpose of the Fighting Oligarchy tour is to deliver a message rarely heard through corporate media and the dominance of the two major political parties.
“It is vitally important that we provide a progressive political and economic analysis that many people around the country have really never heard,” he said.
