BREAKING | ‘No More War!’: Americans Condemn Bombing of Iran in Real Time
Lawmakers call Trump’s order illegal and want action on bipartisan war powers measure
Americans reacted swiftly to news that Donald Trump had ordered the US military to attack several targets in Iran, which puts the United States squarely in the midst of Israel’s ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Not only did Americans begin reacting to the news of the US bombing campaign online, but in person, as well.
That includes a hall full of those attending a Saturday night rally in Tulsa, Okla, held by Sen Bernie Sanders, in which the progressive independent from Vermont shared news of the attack as it came in.
A number of lawmakers immediately denounced the attack as illegal, and called for immediate action on a war powers resolution on Iran co-sponsored by Republican Rep Thomas Massie, of Kentucky, and Democratic Rep Ro Khanna, of California, as the US Constitution clearly gives only Congress the power to declare war.
Trump announced the US airstrikes in a social media post.
“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” his post read. “All planes are now outside of Iran airspace. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Sanders shared the news in the midst of a stop of his ongoing “Fighting Oligarchy” tour in deep-red Tulsa, Okla. Not only did the large hall look packed with attendees, once the senator read Trump’s statement, many rallygoers spontaneously raised their fists and broke out in shouts of, “No more war!”
Sanders condemned the attack there at the rally, describing it as “so grossly unconstitutional.”

Meanwhile, a number of other lawmakers also spoke out against the strikes.
“This is insane. Trump just bombed Iran without Congressional approval, illegally dragging us into war in the Middle East. Have we not learned our lesson!?!?” Rep Jim McGovern (D-Mass) posted on his social media. “Congress must return to Washington at once to vote on Rep. Thomas Massie’s War Powers Resolution to stop this madness.”
Massie himself reposted Trump’s announcement, topping it with the caption: “This is not Constitutional.”
