Buttigieg: ‘We’re Not the Ones Looking for Culture Wars'
Transportation secretary speaks to National Urban League
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg sought to draw clear distinctions between Democrats and Republicans in a recent speech before the National Urban League's meeting.
Buttigieg, in particular, sought to contrast the Republicans and their focus on culture wars and the Democrats' more-problem-solving approach.
“Want to make clear, we are not the ones looking for culture wars. We‘re just trying to do what‘s right healing the broken places in our country,” said Buttigieg, former mayor of South Bend, Ind., and a one-time contender for the Democratic nomination for president. “Connecting divided communities is not divisive. A railroad that creates a wrong side of the tracks that‘s what‘s vice of and that‘s what we have to do something about other people are out there deciding what books they want to ban.”
Buttigieg has seen a rise in his national profile in recent weeks, particularly since he defended a recent tweet by his husband, Chasten, following the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade and upend nearly a half century of national abortion rights.
