Citing Vaccines, Biden Throws Trump A Bone
“I got my booster shot… and just the other day former President Trump announced he had gotten his booster shot. Maybe one of the few things he and I agree on,” the president says
In a rare show of support for his predecessor — and an obvious attempt to use that sparse bit of praise to draw Donald Trump's supporters in for vaccinations — President Biden thanked Trump’s administration for its work to make vaccines for COVID-19 available so soon.
“Thanks to the prior administration and our scientific community, America was one of the first countries to get the vaccine,” Biden said Tuesday.
The president's efforts to close political daylight between himself and Trump didn't end there.
“I got my booster shot… and just the other day former President Trump announced he had gotten his booster shot. Maybe one of the few things he and I agree on,” Biden added.
With his remarks, Biden is clearly going to his rhetorical lengths in order to try to coax Trump’s supporters into getting their vaccinations — which many on the political right have publicly resisted for months now.
The refusal of at least some right-wingers to accede to the vaccines has created serious and significant gaps in the nation’s overall rate and distribution of vaccinated Americans.
This, in turn, has contributed to COVID to continue to produce new variants and continuing spikes in the number of COVID cases nationwide.
Despite his kind words, Biden also turned serious in his remarks, as well.
“The unvaccinated are responsible for their own choices, but those choices have been fueled by misinformation on TV and social media. These companies are making money by peddling lies and allowing misinformation that can kill their own customers ... It is wrong. It's immoral,” he admonished.
