Conway’s View of Democratic Party: Jan 6 Obsessed Dems Drive ‘Electric Vehicles’ to ‘Get an Abortion’
Former Trump aide’s narrative full of right-wing tropes and dog whistles
Former White House advisor Kellyanne Conway unloaded on the Democratic Party with a bizarre narrative laden with many of the political right’s favorite tropes and dog whistles.
Conway, a longtime Republican operative and pollster who served as senior counselor to the president during Donald Trump's administration, made her off-the-wall statement during an on-camera appearance Wednesday on Fox News.
“I just think that Democrats wake up every morning and they look at the calendar, the iPhone says ‘January 6, 2021,’ the date never changes. And then they get in an electric vehicle and go get an abortion,” she said, while one of the Fox News hosts could be heard, off-camera, “Oh my God.”
“I just described the Democratic Party to you in seven seconds. That's it. That's what I see,” Conway added.
Republicans have attempted, for years, to downplay the insurrection against the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, as nothing more than Democratic paranoia.
Trump, for instance, has begun referring to those convicted for crimes during the insurrection as “hostages.”
Further, Republicans have focused on President Biden's initiatives to foster the adoption of electric vehicles in the United States as a tool to combat global climate change, for scorn and ridicule.
And Republicans have been struggling politically with the issue of abortion rights since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade more than a year ago, upending nearly a half-century of guaranteed national access to abortion services.
