‘Cool Your Jets’: Plenty of Time for Harris to Do Media Interviews, Longtime Strategist Says
Vice president has been busy with her campaign, James Carville says
Members of the press and others pressuring Vice President Kamala Harris to start doing interviews with the media need to “cool your jets.”
That’s according to James Carville, the longtime Democratic strategist who helped catapult Bill Clinton into the White House.
Members of the media — as well as a number of her Republican political adversaries — have been complaining that Harris has not made herself available to sit with reporters since she became the Democratic nominee for president.
Instead, she and her running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, have been barnstorming the country in a series of packed campaign rallies with supporters.
The vice president has been a busy woman since taking over at the top of the Democratic ticket since President Biden dropped his bid for reelection in July, Carville said.
“In that time, she’s had to merge a campaign, put a campaign together, plan a convention, pick a vice president, and she’s come out with several policy proposals already,” he said. “So, I got news for everybody, just cool your jets here. There’s plenty of time for this.
“And the sort of idea, well, she’s got to sit down, she’s got to do a long-form interview, she’s got to do this, she’s got to do that, you know, in due course, in due course,” Carville added. “I mean, the whole operation has not even been alive for a month. And, you know, we got the debate on September 10. We got a probable rate cut in mid-September, and [Trump is] going to get sentenced on September 18. And I don’t think she wants to do anything to get in front of that story.
“I think we ought to let it stew itself. So, you know, if you don’t like the way her campaign is going, ask her to debate.”
