Darkness Vs Light: Presidential Hopefuls End With Starkly Different Messages
Harris offers hope, while Trump spreads falsehoods and public obscenity
The Democrat and Republican seeking the nation’s highest office each closed their case to the voters this weekend by delivering vastly divergent messages ahead of Election Day.
Vice President Kamala Harris urged optimism, unity and a “fresh start,” while Donald Trump painted a picture of a nation in “very bad shape,” and continuing his pattern of bizarre behavior while simulating oral sex on a microphone.
Harris and Trump were across the battleground states — and on the airwaves — for the final time before voters make their final choice Tuesday for the 47th president of the United States.
Harris finished the intense barnstorming tour of the country she began just a little more than three months ago when she took over as the Democratic standard-bearer after President Biden dropped out of the race in July.
And she made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live, appearing with actress Maya Rudolph, who impersonates the vice president on the popular TV show.
“America is ready for a fresh start — ready for a new way forward — where we see our fellow American not as an enemy, but as a neighbor,” Harris told a boisterous crowd in East Lansing, Mich.
And she poked light-hearted fun at herself with her appearance in the cold open of this weekend’s broadcast of SNL with Rudolph, sitting across from each other as if peering into a mirror.
“I don’t really laugh like that, do I?” Harris asked, jokingly, as Rudolph — playing her version of the vice president — replied, “Uh, a little bit.”
Meanwhile, Harris’ appearance on Saturday Night Live prompted NBC to give Trump equal time Sunday night during a football game.
He used the opportunity to paint a bleak — and false — picture of the state of the nation.
“We’re two days away from the most important election in the history of our country. We’ve got to save our country, and it needs saving, it’s in very bad shape,” he said. “The worst economic numbers in generations were just announced two days ago. We’re losing jobs. We’re losing everything, including viability. We’re gonna end up in a depression, based on what’s been happening. We’ve never seen anything like it, at least for the last 40 years.
“We have to straighten out our country. We have to close our borders .We have to lower our taxes. We have to get rid of inflation. And we are going to do it. Just remember: Kamala and her friends broke it, I’ll fix it. Most important election in the history of our country. Go and vote.”
The truth is, is that the unemployment rate remains near historic lows and the Federal Reserve is poised soon to further lower interest rates.
Meanwhile, Trump actually simulated oral sex with his microphone, on-stage at a rally in Milwaukee Wis.
“That’s just — it‘s obscene. I mean, it is. But he‘s running for president, right?” asked CNN host Abby Phillip.
