‘Death’: Biden’s One-Word Answer on What Worries Him About Potential Ground Invasion of Gaza
A million or more civilians have nowhere to go ahead of expected Israeli action
While President Biden has declared unswerving and steadfast US support for Israel since last week's horrific terrorist attacks, it's also becoming clearer in recent days that he's also concerned about outcomes of the Israeli response.
Nearly 4,000 Israelis and Palestinians have died since Hamas launched its brutal attacks more than a week ago.
Israeli forces have been bombarding the poor, isolated Palestinian enclave of Gaza and are preparing for an apparent ground invasion of Gaza.
On Friday, Israel said more than 1 million Palestinians should leave their homes in the north of Gaza and flee south, ahead of the expected invasion. Various international officials and organizations have since pressured Egypt to create a “humanitarian corridor,” allowing Palestinians to flee Gaza.
But Egypt stressed in a statement its “national security is a red line and there is no compromise in its protection.”
While Biden has been extremely vocal in backing Israel — as well as ordering US naval forces closer to the fighting — it's clear that the president is worried about what will happen in the days and weeks to come after Israeli troops flood into Gaza.
Top members of Biden's administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have been saying in recent days that protecting civilian life is paramount.
And when a reporter asked him what worries him about a potential Israeli invasion of Gaza, Biden gave just a one-word answer: “Death.”
