Democrats Troll Dr Oz's Pennsylvania Senate Bid
"I want to congratulate my North Jersey constituent Dr. Oz on his run for US Senate in Pennsylvania," Democratic congressman says
Prominent Democrats lined up to mock an apparently serious bid for US Senate by TV doctor, Mehmet Oz, from Pennsylvania — despite the fact that Oz has lived across the state line in New Jersey.
Oz, known professionally as Dr. Oz, is a Turkish-American television personality, cardiothoracic surgeon, Columbia University professor, and author known for popularly promoting pseudoscience and alternative medicine, announced his candidacy Monday.
The TV personality is seeking campaign staff as well as a home in the Philadelphia area, according to Politico reporter Holly Otterbein.
The Pennsylvania Senate race will be for an open seat, as incumbent Republican Sen Pat Toomey is retiring.
Running as a Republican, Oz faces a crowded GOP field of those running.
A number of Democrats are also looking to make the race, most notably US Rep Conor Lamb and Lt Gov John Fetterman.
Democrats took to social media to troll Oz's bid for office from a state where he has only voted in 2020. Oz has lived in Cliffside Park, NJ, for most of his life.
“I want to congratulate my North Jersey constituent Dr Oz on his run for US Senate in Pennsylvania. I'm sure this fully genuine candidacy will capture the hearts of Pennsylvanians,” tweeted US Rep Bill Pascrell (D-NJ).
And former Democratic senator Claire McCaskill reached back to tweet from an encounter when she questioned Oz when he faced questions before a Senate committee.
“For our new 'Trump' Senate candidate in PA. A few excerpts from a hearing about the snake oil he sold on tv,” McCaskill said.
