‘Donald Trump Is a Rapist. Nikki Haley Will Not Say That,’ Former Republican Congressman Says
Judge's statement should be a crippling political takedown
A federal judge has already declared Donald Trump to be a rapist.
That should be a devastating political attack against the former president, who's seeking the 2024 Republican presidential nomination to seek a rematch against President Biden.
But Trump's sole remaining rival for the nomination, one-time South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, won't make that argument, according to a former Republican congressman who has become a fierce critic of Trump.
Judge Lewis Kaplan said last year that when writer E Jean Carroll repeated her allegation that Trump raped her in New York years ago, her words were “substantially true.”
Just last week, in a follow-up case, a Manhattan jury ordered Trump to pay Carroll $83.3 million for the Republican repeatedly lying and defaming her.
“You mentioned Nikki Haley, she’s not really attacking him. She talked about, you know, it’s a bad thing that we’re talking about $83 million in damages. Damages for what? Donald Trump is a rapist. Nikki Haley will not say that, she will not go there,” Joe Walsh, who represented an Illinois district in Congress, said in an on-camera appearance on CNN. “And Jim, it’s the dilemma she’s in. You know, this nomination is Trump’s. There’s no way Trump’s going to lose.
“Is Nikki Haley going to go scorched earth on him for the next 30 days until South Carolina? If she does that, she’s done as a Republican. So I don’t think she will,” Walsh added. “I still think she gets out before South Carolina.”
The Republican presidential primary in Haley's home state will be February 24, where Trump is leading the race.
