‘Episode of CSI Without the ‘C’’: Late Night Hosts Torch Republicans Over Biden Impeachment
Comedians mock lawmakers for targeting the president without cause
The impeachment inquiry approved Wednesday against President Biden isn't likely to be taken very seriously, at least considering the ridicule late-night chat hosts treated it to on their respective shows.
House Republicans voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry against Biden despite not only a clear and distinct lack of evidence, but without any specific crimes being alleged.
The late-night hosts savaged Republicans on-camera, only hours after the House voted for launching such a barren, baseless impeachment.
CBS host Stephen Colbert played a clip of House debate in which Republican Rep Guy Reschenthaler, of Pennsylvania, couldn't answer when Democratic Rep Joe Neguse, of Colorado, asked him what specific crimes Biden was being accused of in the impeachment inquiry.
“That has the real vibe of a kid who did not prepare for the class presentation,” Colbert mocked, launching into a skit playing the part of such a kid.
“Uh, the book was not just about mice, but it also had men. Really something for everyone,” Colbert joked. “But what intrigued me most about this book was that it is $14.99 in Canada and only $12.99 in the United States. Food for thought.”
Dropping the act, Colbert added, “House Republicans who support the impeachment insist that launching an investigation into a crime with no evidence is totally normal.“
Colbert's rival on ABC, Jimmy Kimmel, likewise roasted the Republican’s impeachment inquiry.
“In Washington today, Republicans in the house voted to open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. They managed to get the votes they needed, even though no one seems to know exactly what they would be impeaching him for,” he said to audience laughter.
“This headline tells you all you need to know about the Republican Party right now: ‘House set to approve Biden impeachment inquiry as it hunts for an offense,” Kimmel added, to even more laughter. “In other words, they don’t have a crime, but they do have an investigation.
“It’s like an episode of CSI if there was no ‘c,’ just ‘s-i,’” he said. “It’s a scene investigation.”
