Fellow Minnesotan Endorses Democratic Harris/Walz Ticket
Jesse Ventura condemns attacks on Tim Walz's military service
Saying that he wants “to be alive to see the first woman president of the United States of America,” former independent Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura is endorsing the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris and his fellow Minnesotan, Gov Tim Walz.
Ventura, the former professional wrestler who rose to lead the Land of 10,000 Lakes in the late ’90s and early Aughts, has always been very independent politically.
However, this weekend he made clear his disgust with the Republican ticket of Donald Trump and JD Vance, and threw his weight behind the Democrats.
A veteran himself, Ventura also condemned attacks on Walz’s long military service.
Ventura announced his views both on social media and an on-camera interview with CNN.
“I want to be alive to see the first woman president of the United States of America,” Ventura, 73, said on the cable news network.
He was even more explicit on social media.
“Ask yourselves this question... How bad can Donald Trump and his cult of Republicans be if they can drive a true independent like me to endorse the Harris/Walz ticket?” Ventura asked. “Take a moment to think about that.”
Ventura also savaged those on the right who have been denigrating the military service of Walz, who later followed him into Minnesota’s governor’s mansion.
Ventura is a former Navy seal while Walz served 24 years in Minnesota’s Army National Guard.
Vance and others have been attacking Walz for retiring from the military specifically to duck combat during the war in Iraq.
Ventura made clear that those attacks are false.
“First and foremost, any point after 20 years you can retire when you want to,” he said. “Second, Vance is missing the point. What he ought to be asking is this: Why is the National Guard being shipped out and fighting in foreign lands?
“That isn’t their role,” Ventura added. “Their role is to be here in our nation, protecting us. That’s why they’re called the National Guard.”
