‘First Class Journalist’: Huge Outpouring After Trump’s Tantrum
President storms out of “Meet The Press” interview after challenged over false claims
Donald Trump’s tantrum in which he stormed out of a national TV interview Sunday prompted an immediate outpouring over his poor behavior.
He got up and walked out of his interview with Kristen Welker, of NBC News, after the Meet The Press host challenged the president over his years of false claims that he won a “rigged” 2020 presidential election.
Journalists, politicians, and others all criticized Trump for crashing out in a major media interview.
By the end of the encounter, Trump was clearly enraged, claiming that ABC, CBS, NBC and other major news outlets were all “crooked.”
He told Welker, “Thank you, darling, have a good time,” as he got up to leave.
Former “Never Trump” Republican George Conway — now running for Congress from New York as a Democrat — reposted a comment by podcaster and political commentator Molly Jong-Fast.
“Remember when we were told women were too emotional to be president,” she wrote.
David Corn, Washington bureau chief of Mother Jones, commented, “There’s really only one conclusion here: Trump cannot live in the realm of reality. He pathologically makes claims that cannot be supported and acts as if he is delusional. If all elections are rigged, as he says, how did he win in 2016 in 2024? He is a danger to this country.”
Sen Amy Klobuchar specifically called out Trump’s misogynistic treatment of Welker.
“Trump Calling Welker ‘crooked’ ‘stupid’ and then the ultimate—‘darling’—for asking him what evidence he has that elections are rigged? What is ‘crooked’ is the money for the ballroom, what is ‘stupid’ are the tariffs. And what is ‘darling’ is a first class journalist,” the Minnesota Democrat posted.
Brendan Nyhan, a professor at Dartmouth University, simply reminded that Trump is “The man with the nuclear codes.”
But Brandon Friedman, an entrepreneur and former official in the Obama administration, offered a different perspective.
“We all think this was great: A reporter finally pushing back. Trump flailing and quitting. A clear picture of a corrupt and weak leader for all to see,” he posted. “But if you watch to the end, it’s clear Welker viewed it as a failure because she angered her subject, may lose access and embarrassed the network.”
