Fmr Chairman: With MTG On Homeland Committee, It's 'Incumbent' on Other Lawmakers To Educate Her
Georgia Republican holds to a number of bizarre conspiracy theories
With hard-right congresswoman, Marjorie Taylor Greene installed on the House Homeland Security Committee, now it's up to other lawmakers to disabuse the Georgia Republican of her conspiracy theories related to the September 11, 2001, attacks.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) returned Greene to her committee assignments, after being stripped of them two years ago because she had advocated violence against prominent Democrats.
Greene has promoted unhinged QAnon conspiracy theory, agreed with people who question whether 9/11 was an inside job and suggested school shootings are government false-flag operations.
But now that she's a member of this sensitive panel, it's the responsibility of her colleagues to play teacher and convince Greene to give up the conspiracy theories, according to a prominent Republican congressman who once chaired the Homeland Security Committee.
“I will tell you, she has matured. I think she realizes she doesn’t know everything and she wants to learn and become I think more of a team player,” Rep Michael McCaul (R-Texas), who chaired the homeland panel for several years during the last decade. “I think it's incumbent upon more senior members to try --look, she’s a member of Congress -- to try to bring her in and try to educate her that these theories that she has are not accurate.”
