Former Congressman Blames Fellow Democrats for Biden's Sagging Approval
Biden has one of the thinnest congressional majorities in history with which to work
Democrats are at least partially to blame for the lackluster approval ratings which have been plaguing President Biden for months, according to a former congressman from Maryland who briefly ran for president.
Biden's approval ratings began to sag last summer, and he's been more unpopular than popular, ever since.
As of Saturday, the president's disapproval exceeded his approval by more than 13 percentage points.
That disapproval, however, is driven also by Democrats, said John Delaney, a Democratic member of the House for six years before running for a short time for his party's 2020 presidential nomination.
“Biden's numbers would be stronger if some Democrats would wake up to the facts, stop blaming him for not doing more, and start realizing that he has the one of the thinnest Congressional margins in history! In that context, what he has done is very significant,” he tweeted Saturday.
Democrats hold just 50 seats in the Senate, and are in the majority by way of the tie-breaking vote of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, Democrats are just five votes away from losing their majority in the House.
However, Biden and those Democrats approved emergency COVID relief funding early in Biden's term, helped pass a bipartisan bill aimed at a major overhaul and refurbishment of the nation's aging infrastructure as well as a small handful of more-modest legislation.
Some on social media attacked Delaney's critique as out-of-touch, given that as a businessman he is worth more than $200 billion at a time when Americans of much more modest means struggle with high inflation.
Unfortunately, it was a pair of corporate Democrats who scuttled much of the rest of the president's agenda which was contained in the failed Build Back Better Act.
