Former FBI Official: Boebert, Carlson ‘Should Face Civil Consequences’ from CO Shooting Victims
"Let’s expose it for what it is, name it, and shame it," Figliuzzi adds
Two of the most prominent figures on the political right should be held accountable for rhetoric which fueled the deadly shooting over the weekend at an LGBTQ night spot in Colorado, according to a former top Justice Department official.
Five people were killed and 17 others injured in a mass shooting over the weekend at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colo., before a U.S. Army veteran who helped subdue the gunman.
That gunman is facing five murder and hate-crime charges, court records show.
Given that that gunman is facing hate-crimes charges, if it's shown that he consumed the rhetoric of far-right congresswoman, Lauren Boebert, of Colorado, and Fox News host Tucker Carlson, then Boebert and Carlson should be held to account, said Frank Figliuzzi, former assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI.
“If he’s a consumer of the people we just rattled off, from Lauren Boebert to Tucker Carlson, let’s get it out. Let’s get it out at trial, let’s expose it for what it is, name it, and shame it. He’s a consumer of these people and those people should face civil consequences from the victims,” Figliuzzi said in an on-camera appearance on MSNBC. “The other thing they want to deny is not only the safe harbor but the way we resolve this. And by that, I mean, you asked earlier, how do we put a stop to hate? One of the things you would normally do is teach young children in school, here’s what race is about. Here’s what these other people over here, who may seem different to you, they have a different orientation.
“But you know what? Increasingly, states are saying, no, no, no, you can’t talk about race, or say the word ‘gay’ or teach anything in school. So, they deny the resolution mechanism that we would normally use,” he added.
