Fox Host Calls For Trump To Calm Violent Rhetoric Against Law Enforcement
Doocy's comment comes after ramped-up threats
Threats of right-wing violence against the FBI and other US law enforcement are now running so high that two federal agencies over the weekend released an advisory and Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy publicly pleaded with Donald Trump Monday morning to cool the violent political rhetoric.
Such threats have been rising since last week, when FBI agents executed a fully lawful search warrant on the Florida home of the former president in search of classified and other national security materials illegally being stored there.
Those threats began spilling over when an armed man tried to breach the FBI field office in Cincinnati Ohio last Thursday, resulting in the man's death.
Meanwhile, armed pro-Trump demonstrators were outside the FBI field office in Phoenix, Ariz., Saturday.
These threats and actions prompted the FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to release a joint advisory to the nation's law enforcement to warn them of the heightened threat of violence.
Right-wing media, including Fox News, have been trafficking in these threats for days.
So it could be seen as significant that Doocy chose to step out to say something in an attempt to tamp down the anger and the potential for violence.
“We just know that right now, given the fact that there is a suggestion, there are a lot of online very specific — apparently very specific threats against very specific agents at the FBI and whatnot — it would be great for everybody to tamp down the rhetoric against the FBI, because the FBI simply was doing what the [Justice Department] asked them to do,” Doocy said on-camera. “The attorney general is the boss of the guy at the FBI — of all the people at the FBI.
“So, you know, with all of these threats going around it would ultimately be great if the former president — who has always been a great supporter of law enforcement, had posed with 1,000 police departments coast to coast — it would be great if he called for an end to the violent rhetoric against federal law enforcement, and in particular, the FBI that was just doing their job,” he added.
