Fox News Has A New Enemy: Late-night Comedian Stephen Colbert
Kilmeade skewers funnyman as a “former comedian turned lunatic.”
It was probably inevitable.
Stephen Colbert, host of the CBS network's powerhouse Late Show, has been skewering Donald Trump for years.
Colbert won't even refer to the former president by name, choosing instead to call him by a seemingly unending list of unflattering epithets, like: Scooby Coup, Old Wack Donald and Marginally Sentient Spray Tan.
And yet Colbert's anti-Trump hijinx somehow avoided right-wing outrage.
Until now.
The late-night funnyman’s Tuesday night monologue, exultant over the FBI raid on the former president's Mar-a-Lago Florida compound the day before finally grabbed the attention the next morning of Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade, who called Colbert a “former comedian turned lunatic.”
Kilmeade's ire at Colbert is simply a symptom of the wider right-wing media outrage which has been spreading since the news broke that FBI agents executed a fully lawful search warrant on the former president's home in Palm Beach.
Kilmeade played a clip of Colbert from the night before.
“It may be hot outside, but in here it’s Christmas,” Colbert said to laughter and applause. “Because yesterday we all got the present we wanted to. FBI agents raided Mar-a-Lago! Mwah!¨(...) He-he-he! That is the most beautiful sentence America has ever produced.”
After the clip ended, the camera returned to Kilmeade, who snarked, “Does he know he’s not supposed to use the word 'raid?'”
