‘Get Sh*t Done’: Michigan’s Whitmer Test-drives Slogan at Harris Rally
Democratic governors campaign in suburban Philadelphia
Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer traveled to neighboring Pennsylvania Monday to join her Democratic colleague, Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro, to lead a raucous campaign rally for Vice President Kamala Harris’s surging race for the White House.
The two governors spoke before a crowd clearly fired up over the potential of Harris’s campaign, which — in just over a week — brought in an amazing $200 million and nearly 200 million new volunteers.
Harris, who would become the first Black woman to lead the nation, became the presumptive Democratic nominee earlier this month when President Biden chose to drop his bid for a second term.
Whitmer touted the accomplishments of Shapiro, who’s in his first term at the helm of the Keystone State, while test-driving what could be a new Democratic slogan.
“How good is Josh Shapiro? Well, he’s gotten a heck of a lot done in just over — well, in over the last year and a half, and is another example of Democratic governors who believe in our three-part strategy: Get sh*t done,” she exclaimed to cheers and applause from the crowd.
Whitmer also took a jibe at Republican Sen JD Vance of Ohio, who is Donald Trump’s running mate. Vance recently created a political firestorm with his criticism of childless women he calls “cat ladies.”
“Now, I got to take a minute to talk about the guy who joined his ticket a couple of weeks ago. Oh, you heard of him, did you? J.D. Vance, yeah,” she said. “He’s really made his values clear lately. He does not see women as equals.
“He does not want everyone to have a seat at the table. He’s scared of us. Because, Democrats, we want everyone to have a seat at the table,” Whitmer added, to applause. “I mean, even cat lovers and dog lovers alike.”
Shapiro also took a turn rousing the crowd, talking about the stakes of the coming election.
“This election isn’t just about a name on the ballot. It’s an election about all of us, and what it is that we’re willing to fight for,” he said. “I don’t know about you, I want a future that is cleaner and greener, with safer schools and better streets. And I want a future with more freedom, not less!
“And I want a future where I can look the 47th president of the United States in the eye, and say, ‘Hello, Madam President!’” he enthused.
