‘Get Some Medication, Katie’: ‘View’ Hosts Savage Britt’s State of the Union Response
Alabama Republican's remarks have been widely panned
The women on ABC’s daytime chat show, The View, mocked Sen Katie Britt for her histrionic Republican response to President Biden’s State of the Union address this week.
Britt, the junior senator from Alabama, delivered the official Republican response from what appeared her home kitchen in Montgomery, Ala.
At 42, she’s the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate, entering the upper chamber last year.
However, Britt has been widely mocked for her performance Thursday evening.
That includes the hosts of The View, who played a clip of her remarks and then reacted to it.
“Get some medication, Katie. I haven’t seen acting that bad since my wedding night. So, which genius in that party decided that she was the perfect spokesperson?” said co-host Joy Behar. “I’ve never seen mood swings like this. One minute she’s like [sobbing noise], then she’s like gonna take a knife and stab you. Then she’s laughing like an idiot. What is wrong with her? She’s like Sybil.”
Even Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin, who worked in the White House with Donald Trump, panned Britt’s performance.
“A disaster from start to finish,” she said. “And actually, Katie Britt is somebody who’s a serious person with policy chops. Democratic senators will tell you they respect her. But it’s Women’s History Month, it’s International Women’s Day and we put the senator in the kitchen!”
“Where the knives are!” Behar interjected.
“Like, women can be wives, they can be moms, but they don’t [put] her in front of a podium,” Farah Griffin continued. “I was hearing from Republican women everywhere like, ‘Why did they choose this?’ Why did she not say, ‘Put me anywhere else’?”
Former Republican political strategist Ana Navarro mocked Britt’s response.
“I don’t even know how you were able to notice she was in a kitchen because I was so incredibly distracted by what I was watching, right?” she said. “The only thing that worried me about her being in a kitchen is that she had knives so close by because I thought she could go Chuckie on me at any time. You know, when she started, it was giving me like a Real Housewives” vibe.
