Hillary Clinton: Ukraine Is Now on Offense, America Needs to Keep Supporting Ukraine
"They were attacked by an unprovoked act of war, and they’ve held out and they've done better than anybody could have predicted," 2016 Democratic nominee says
The United States and its allies must continue their staunch support for beleaguered Ukraine against the ongoing Russian invasion and onslaught — which is now more than six months old.
That's according to former secretary of state and two-time Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who talked up the cause of Ukraine Tuesday night in an appearance with her daughter, Chelsea, on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine in late February.
Although the Russian invasion has been brutal, often striking at civilian targets like hospitals, the Ukrainian military — and the Ukrainian people — have been successful in continuing to fight off the foreign aggression, often thanks to the influx of international aid and high-powered weapons they've received.
The Ukrainian people — and the world — have rallied around Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has remained in his country despite great danger to his own life.
“Well, look, I am thrilled that they have gotten the support and solidarity of so much of the world. Obviously, Europe, the United States, Canada, but Japan, other places. They’re getting the weapons they need to defend themselves, and they’re now on offense,” said Clinton. “And I think we have to keep supporting them, helping them. They were attacked by an unprovoked act of war, and they’ve held out and they've done better than anybody could have predicted. And Zelenskyy has been a true wartime leader, I’m so impressed with him.”
