House Republicans Hope Special Counsel’s Report Breathes Life into Biden Impeachment
Hur report contains contradictions
House Republicans are hoping that special counsel Robert Hur’s report regarding President Biden’s handling of government documents can revive their flagging attempt to impeach the president.
Hur last week released a report that, while found Biden should not be criminally charged for retaining federal documents after leaving office as vice president, nonetheless made several scathing statements about him.
And House Republicans now hope that report can breathe life into hopes to impeach Biden which have faltered in recent weeks, including their own failed attempt to impeach one of Biden’s Cabinet.
House Republicans last year launched a lackluster attempt to impeach Biden for alleged corruption without evidence.
The Republican chairmen of three House committees wrote Attorney General Merrick Garland Monday, demanding access to transcripts of interviews conducted with Biden on October 8 and 9, 2023.
They’ve given Garland until February 19 to comply.
However, contradictions have been found in Hur’s work.
Notably, Hur alleges Biden willfully retained and disclosed sensitive documents, but then on page 215 it says there’s a shortage of evidence on these points.
