‘I Have 10 Times, 20 Times, 30 Times the Crowd Size’: Trump Gets Big Mad Over Democratic Rallies
Republican resorts to falsehoods trying to compare attendance numbers
Donald Trump certainly seems peeved by the large numbers of supporters his Democratic opponent is attracting to her campaign events.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who’s been gaining a significant amount of support in public opinion polling since she jumped into the presidential race in late July as the head of the Democratic ticket, has been drawing an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 supporters to campaign rallies across the country this week as she's been introducing her new running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz.
Trump, who largely has been home in Florida and off the campaign trail this week as he struggles with the new ascendancy of the Harris/Walz ticket, was clearly triggered Wednesday during a rambling press conference he held at his Mar-a-Lago golf club in Florida.
He flashed clear annoyance when a reporter asked him about the size of the crowds at the Harris/Walz rallies. Crowd size has long been important to Trump as he falsely insisted during his presidency that his inaugural crowds were larger than those of his predecessor, Barack Obama.
In response to the question, Trump went on a rant full of falsehoods and imaginary claims.
“Oh, give me a break! Listen, I had 107,000 people [at a rally] in New Jersey; you didn’t report it,” Trump said, starting with the false claims. “I’m so glad you asked. What did she have? Two-thousand people? If I ever had 2,000 people, you’d say my campaign was finished.”
In truth, the Trump campaign has often had trouble filling campaign venues. Just recently he held a rally in Atlanta Ga, just days after Harris held her own event at the same venue.
While Harris attracted a capacity crowd, there were ample empty seats during the Trump rally, which Trump falsely blamed on the ownership of the venue.
“It’s so dishonest, the press, and here’s a great example. I had, in Michigan recently, 25,000 people — and 25,000 people, we just couldn’t get them in,” Trump said, himself dishonestly. “In Harrisburg [Pennsylvania], 20, 25,000 people — and 20,000 people couldn’t get in. Nobody ever mentions that.
“When she gets 1,500 people — and I saw it on ABC, which they said, ‘Oh the crowd was so big,’ — I have 10 times, 20 times, 30 times the crowd size.”
In truth, the media does report on the attendance of Trump’s rallies, including when attendance is exaggerated.
