‘I Love Good Ideas Wherever They Come From’: Harris Plans Bipartisan Group of Advisors
Vice president announced plan while campaigning in Arizona
Vice President Kamala Harris is doubling down on her vow of bipartisanship by saying that she would establish a bipartisan group of advisors, if she becomes president.
For some time, Harris has promised to appoint a Republican to her Cabinet if she is elected president in next month’s election.
Now she’s going a step further, she said during a campaign stop in Arizona.
Harris has been attracting a significant amount of support from Republicans disaffected by the candidacy of Donald Trump, right-leaning voters turned off by the former president’s authoritarianism, his criminal convictions and the role he played in fomenting the violent insurrection on January 6, 2021.
And Harris has done what she can to embrace these voters crossing the political aisle for her.
“Not only will I have a Republican in my Cabinet, but I…want to create some structure around the following, which is: I love good ideas. Wherever they come from, I love good ideas,” Harris said in Scottsdale, Ariz. “So part of what I intend to do — and put some structure around — is create a bipartisan council of advisors who can give feedback on policy as we go forward.”
It’s important for the country to foster “a healthy two-party system,” Harris added.
“We have to have a healthy two-party system — we do. It’s in the interest of all of us,” she said.
