‘I Will Not Be Spending 30 Minutes Swaying Back and Forth to Music’: Clinton Mocks Trump Appearance
42nd president campaigns for the Harris-Walz ticket in North Carolina
Campaigning in the battleground state of North Carolina, former president Bill Clinton took a jab at Donald Trump, for Trump’s recent bizarre appearance in which he stopped speaking and simply stood on stage swaying to music.
The former president was in Durham, NC, Thursday with Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, the Democratic nominee for vice president.
Clinton has been getting out on the campaign trail in recent weeks, since his appearance this summer at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Clinton, as he often does, indulged in some self-deprecating humor while also zinging Trump, who narrowly defeated his wife Hillary Clinton eight years ago.
“Let’s cut to the chase. I don't know how many more elections I’ll be involved with. And I’m too old to gild the lily. Heck, I’m only too months younger than Donald Trump,” he quipped, wearing a “Harris Walz” button on his lapel.
That’s when Clinton jabbed at Trump over the Republican’s recent, off-the-wall campaign stop outside Philadelphia, Pa, in which Trump stopped taking questions and chose, instead to remain on stage while music played for 39 minutes.
“The good news for you is: I will not spend 30 minutes swaying back-and-forth to music,” he cracked. “And I’ve played enough music, I will not clap off-beat. Nor will I pretend to be a conductor. Because we have a race to win, and we have to win it.
“I’ve been doing this a long, long time. And I can honestly say that I am not running for anything, anymore — except my grandchildren’s future.”
