‘I’d Be Hard-Pressed to Find Someone Dumber’: Crockett Talks About MTG
Texas Democrat recounts famous Capitol Hill clash on late-night TV
The now-famous clash between them was just an example of how “dumb” far-right Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene is, according to Democratic congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.
A guest Thursday on late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s program, the Texas congresswoman told the story of the late-night session last month which ended with Crockett branding the Georgia Republican as a “bleach blonde, bad-built, butch body.”
Kimmel asked Crockett if there was anything that led up to that outburst by Greene.
“No, it’s just that Marjorie is a little slow,” Crockett replied, to laughter. “No, yeah, so — you know, what most people don’t know is that on this particular day, we were supposed to have our hearing at 11:00 A.M. Instead, it wasn’t until like 8:00 P.M.
“Like, they were trying to compete with you for ratings, I guess,” she added, joking.
Crockett explained that the hearing had been delayed all day waiting for Republican lawmakers who were in New York for Donald Trump’s criminal trial, to return to Washington DC.
“So then — the hearing was supposed to be about the A.G., right? So we’re supposed to be talking about A.G. Merrick Garland. And she starts talking about Judge Merchan,” the judge in Trump’s hush-money case. “So now I’m upset because it’s already late at night, I’ve been here all day, ready to work, y’all aren’t here, and you’re still talking about that failed trial. So I had to ask her if she understood, because she’s not the brightest.”
“Right. Oh, yeah,” Kimmel interjected.
“And ultimately she, you know — ” Crockett began.
“She attacked you, personally,” Kimmel explained.
“She did,” Crockett added.
“She started it,” Kimmel confirmed.
“She did.”
Kimmel asked about the stinging rejoinder that Crockett tagged Greene with: “Bleach blonde, bad-built, butch body.”
“That — it’s so good. Was that floating around in your head before this?” the host asked.
“No, no, no,” Crockett admitted.
“Holy cow, you just — that just came out?” Kimmel asked.
“Not really. So, like, when you clip it up — I mean, it looked like it was really fast, but it wasn’t. There was a lot of time that passed,” Crockett said.
“So they were supposed to either kick her out or she was supposed to apologize. Ultimately, Comer, who y’all saw was very confused — ” she added, referring to Rep James Comer, of Kentucky, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
“Yeah. He seems perpetually confused,” Kimmel said.
“Absolutely. He then also revealed in that hearing that he has two hearing aids. So he was like, ‘If y’all didn’t realize, I got two hearing aids, I can’t hear,’” Crockett said.
“That’s convenient,” Kimmel interjected.
“So we were like, ‘Oh, so we’re having a hearing about the fact that you don’t have the audio recordings from the A.G.? Got it. Because you can’t hear him anyway. So what do you need it for?’” Crockett joked, to audience laughter.
Kimmel asked if Crockett has seen Greene since that night, and if the two congresswomen are civil.
“Uh — we don’t talk,” Crockett said, to more laughter.
“You don’t talk, yeah. Is she the dumbest person in the House of Representatives?” Kimmel asked.
“I’d be hard-pressed to find someone dumber,” Crockett revealed, to more audience cheering and applause.
