‘If You Offend Marjorie Taylor Greene’: Obscure Racist Influencer Has Trump’s Ear
Far-right Laura Loomer appears to have voice in presidential campaign
Donald Trump’s apparently being advised directly by a right-wing influencer so extreme and racist, she’s been denounced by far-right congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Laura Loomer, has been a prominent influencer on the far-right for years, but she has taken such a prominent place in Trump’s orbit that she was seen this week traveling with the former president aboard his aircraft.
Espousing Islamophobic, white nationalist and conspiracy theorist views, the 31-year-old both has worked in a variety of media and social media and been banned from several for hate speech.
Loomer’s influence seems to have hit a new high, as she was spotted traveling with Trump to his debate against Vice President Kamala Harris. Known for falsely claiming that the September 11, 2001, attacks were an “inside job,” Loomer also accompanied Trump to the commemoration of 23rd anniversary of the attacks held Wednesday in New York.
She also posted a vile racist comment on social media directed at Harris, who is of both Black and Indian heritage.
Loomer has become so incendiary as to provoke a rebuke from Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia, who herself has amassed a history of Christian nationalist and conspiracy-minded comments.
“This is such an important election. I don’t think that she has the experience or the right mentality to advise in very important presidential election,” Greene said Thursday, adding that Loomer’s rhetoric “does not match the base, does not match MAGA, does not match most Republicans I know.”
That Greene would call out Loomer says something, as well as the fact that Trump would bring her to the September 11 events in New York, according to Jordan Klepper, host of The Daily Show.
“We are now just 53 days away from the election, and the candidates are pulling out all the stops to build out their coalitions. On the Republican side, Donald Trump has been flying around the country with far-right internet troll Laura Loomer, a 9/11 conspiracy theorist who Trump brought to a 9/11 ceremony yesterday,” Klepper said. “A 9/11 truther at a 9/11 ceremony? Is that like an atheist going to Easter mass? ‘Well, I don’t believe in any of this, but as long as you guys are having fun, you know?’
“And if you want an idea of just how extreme Loomer is, Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling her out for being racist. And not even in a ‘Stop stealing my bit!’ kind of way,” he added. “I didn’t even know there was a level of racist above Marjorie Taylor Greene. It’s like finding out a movie can be rated NC-39.”
It’s Loomer — and other people like her — who apparently gave Trump so much of the bizarre material that helped detail his performance so badly during his televised face-off Tuesday against Harris, according to Ed Luce, Washington columnist for the Financial Times.
“He hangs out a lot with Laura Loomer. I mean, we can mention other names that are more familiar or older standing ones like Stephen Miller who have similar world views. But Laura Loomer is somebody who said, tweeted, something so racist, so nasty about Kamala Harris and the White House smelling of curry and call centers taking the calls if she became president, that even Marjorie Taylor Greene asked her to take it down,” he said. “Now, if you offend Marjorie Taylor Greene — I didn’t think that was possible — and Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks you’ve gone too far, then that says something. And this is the kind of person Donald Trump is hanging out with.
“He’s hanging out with people who tell him, ‘Yes, what you’ve just said about crowd sizes is true,’ ‘Yes, what you said about you having the greatest economy in the in world history is true.’ ‘What we’ve been hearing about people hanging other people’s pet dogs or abducting their cats, that’s true,’” Luce said. “He’s hanging out with people who say ‘Yes’ back to him.
“And I doubt, frankly, that Chris LaCivita or Susie Wiles — who are professional campaign operatives, worked on many different Republican campaigns — are being listened to very much at all by Donald Trump. And the more we see of that, a bit like the debate the other night, the more rope he has given to hang himself, the more he will hang himself.”
