Ilhan Omar Hangs Up on Republican Boebert After 'Unproductive Phone Call'
Monday call stems from incident which Boebert fabricated
Democratic Rep Ilhan Omar hung up on a right-wing Republican colleague Monday who had publicly lied about Omar in an attempt to smear the second-term congresswoman from Minnesota.
The phone call stems from an attempt by Rep Lauren Boebert to publicize an episode involving Omar — a member of the progressive group known as “the Squad” — which apparently was entirely a falsehood and made-up by Boebert.
Boebert was apparently directed by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) to apologize to Omar, who is Muslim.
After Boebert reached Omar Monday, each woman released their own statements.
Boebert released her statement in the form of a video in which she delivered an angry, Donald Trump-like rant.

From her own video, Boebert indicated that she was hardly contrite in speaking with Omar.
Omar, on the other hand, released a written statement addressing the nature of the phone call itself.
“Instead of apologizing for her Islamophobic comments and fabricated lies, Rep Boebert refused to acknowledge her hurtful and dangerous comments. She instead doubled down on her rhetoric and I decided to end the call,” Omar’s statement read. “I believe in engaging with those we disagree with respectfully, but not when that disagreement is rooted in outright bigotry and hate.”
