'In The Old Days a Politician Would Be Kicked Out for Opposing the Union's Survival'
Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed for advocating "national divorce"
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, one of the most consistent sources of outrage in the nation's capital, is at it again.
The hard-right congresswoman is under fire from a former colleague, among others, for her open advocacy of a break-up of the United States in what she terms a “national divorce.”
The Georgia Republican is no stranger to controversy, given her bizarre embrace of such ideas as the baseless QAnon conspiracy theories, an idea that California wildfires were caused by lasers in outer space owned by Jewish people, as well as such behavior as calling President Biden a “liar,” during the recent State of the Union address.
Once only a fringe member of Congress, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has elevated Greene to greater prominence in the current make-up of the House.
It's from this perch that Greene Monday advocated a need for a “national divorce,” which led to intense criticism — notably by former Rep Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois. Kinzinger was one of just two Republicans serving on the now-disbanded select committee investigating the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, insurrection.
“We need a national divorce. We need to separate the red states and blue states and shrink the size of government,” Greene tweeted. “Everyone I talk to says this.
“From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat's [sic] traitorous America Last policies, we are done.”
To which Kinzinger — who left Congress just last month — responded, “Could you imaging feeling the pressure to provide a new fresh outrage daily because your followers need a bigger and bigger anger dopamine hit?
“In the old days a politician would be kicked out for opposing the Unions [sic] survival,” he added.
Kinzinger was not the only strong critic of Greene's stance, with well-known social media influencer Jeff Tiedrich tweeting to his 1 million followers: “holy fucking shit, openly rooting for civil war should be an immediate disqualification from office and an immediate qualification for prison.”
