‘It Personalizes Her’: Right-wingers Tee Up New Attacks on Harris
Fox News reporter Doocy makes bizarre observation during White House briefing
Figures in right-wing media are trying out new ways to attack Vice President Kamala Harris personally, as she runs for president against Donald Trump.
Trump’s campaign, as well as his allies, largely have been unsuccessful in landing any effective political jabs against Harris since she rose to the top of the Democratic ticket after President Biden dropped his bid for reelection in July.
Rather, the vice president and her running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz, have surged in most public opinion polls in head-to-head matchups against Trump and his running mate, Sen JD Vance of Ohio.
Trump, particularly, has focused on various insults and personal attacks against Harris and Walz.
Some of his allies, too, are continuing to explore ways to tear down Harris personally rather than debate policy.
Peter Navarro, a Trump administration official who this summer completed time in prison for contempt of Congress, was hosting the podcast of another one-time Trump advisor — Steve Bannon — while Bannon is in prison for a similar offense.
Navarro offered advice to fellow Trump supporters.
“Do me a favor. Everybody associated with the Trump campaign, everybody out there who’s a commentator in conservative TV, radio, whoever you are — Sean, Laura, Jesse, my brother Rob Schmitt, or Greg Kelly at Newsmax — here’s the thing. I am urging you, from this day forward, never ever ever to refer to Kamala Harris by her first name, only her first name, ‘Kamala, Kamala, Kamala,’” he said. “She is not a soccer star, okay? Pelé, I get it. Messi, I get it. Okay? But when you use Kamala these days, it does not do us any good, works in the other direction, it personalizes her and it it creates a favorable impression.
“We haven’t been able to do what needs to be done based on her resume, turn Kamala into a four letter word like Hillary was. So stop doing that,” he added.
Meanwhile, Tuesday Fox News reporter Peter Doocy made a bizarre observation about Harris during the regular White House press briefing.
Referring to her rally in Pittsburgh, Pa, over the Labor Day weekend, Doocy claimed that Harris “at least had some kind of a Southern drawl.”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre immediately shut Doocy down.
“I mean, do you think Americans seriously think that this is an important question? They care — you know what they care about? They care about the economy. They care about lowering costs. They care about healthcare. That’s what Americans care about. That’s what they want to hear,” she said.
