January 6 Select Committee Has Busy Monday
Rep Luria: “Attorney General Garland, do your job so we can do ours.”
The House Select Committee investigating the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, insurrection and attack on the US Capitol Building, had a busy day, Monday as it took several additional steps in its comprehensive investigation into what happened that day, when supporters of Donald Trump tried to overturn the lawful and legitimate election of Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.
The committee voted unanimously to advance contempt report on former Trump aides Dan Scavino and Peter Navarro, sending referral recommendation to the full House.
The full House will vote on the contempt resolution this week., which — if approved — would then be sent to the Justice Department for action.
Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va), a member of the panel, also had this message for the Justice Department: “Attorney General [Merrick] Garland, do your job so we can do ours.”
In the wake of bombshell texts showing her high-pressure campaign on the Trump White House to help block the peaceful transfer of power, the select committee will seek an interview with Ginni Thomas, conservative activist and wife of Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas.
Rep Liz Cheney (R-Wyo), the vice chair of the select committee, announced that the panel would resume public hearings.
“The American people will hear from our fellow citizens who demonstrated fidelity to our Constitution and the rule of law, and who refused to bow to President Trump’s pressure,” she said.
Meanwhile, a federal judge has ordered that 101 sensitive emails from Trump ally John Eastman be turned over to the January 6 Committee.
