Jeffries: Republicans Targeting Biden Family Were Exposed ‘as Complete and Total Frauds’
Hunter Biden's surprise arrival in a House hearing set off political fireworks
House Republicans were exposed by their encounter this week in which Hunter Biden appeared before one of their congressional committees, offering to testify in public.
That's according to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
The younger Biden Wednesday called Republicans’ bluff by appearing in the audience during a session of the House Oversight Committee which was to vote the president’s son in contempt of Congress.
Republicans want the younger Biden to testify in their evidence-free impeachment inquiry against his father, President Biden. The younger Biden is willing to testify publicly while Republican lawmakers insist on a closed-door interview.
Hunter Biden appeared in the audience for about 30 minutes as a means to show his willingness to answer their questions in public.
The encounter set off fireworks from some Republican committee members — but it also exposed the unseriousness of Republicans, said Jeffries, the top Democrat in the House.
“Well, the House Republicans were exposed on the Oversight Committee, in my view, as complete and total frauds, with respect to the efforts to target President Biden’s family,” Jeffries said in response to a reporter’s question during his regular weekly press conference. “The chair of the Oversight Committee, has repeatedly and publicly said that Hunter Biden shows up and is willing to participate in a public hearing, that they look forward to that situation being presented to the American people. And then Hunter Biden shows up, and they continue the charade of trying to hold the president’s son in contempt.
“The Republicans are engaged in political gamesmanship and stunts, because they have no vision, have no ideas, have no agenda, and certainly have no accomplishments to present to the American people,” the leader said.
