Joe Biden to Critics: ‘Announce for President, Challenge Me at the Convention’
President gets feisty in live call-in to MSNBC morning show
President Biden not only made clear that he intends to remain as the Democratic nominee for president, but anyone who disagrees should challenge him at the upcoming party convention.
That’s what Biden said Monday morning during a feisty live phone call to the co-hosts of MSNBC’s morning news program, Morning Joe.
Biden called in to push back against those Democrats who have been calling for the 81-year-old president to step aside for reelection following his halting, and sometimes incoherent, performance against opponent Donald Trump in the presidential debate held June 27.
“Any of these guys that don’t think I should run, run against me. Go announce — announce for president. Challenge me at the convention,” Biden said.
Democrats will gather next month in Chicago for their quadrennial nominating convention.
Biden also expressed frustration with the “elites,” as the ones that he said want him to drop out.
“The American public is not going to move away from me, the average voter. And again, I’m here for two reasons, pal: One, to rebuild the economy for hardworking and middle class people, give everybody a shot. That’s a straight shot. Everybody gets a fair chance, number one,” he said. “Number two, remember they’ve always talked about how I don’t have the Black support. Come on, give me a break. Come with me. Watch! Watch! I’m getting so frustrated by the elites.”
