Journalist Calls FBI About Death Threats Over Article On Deprogramming Trump Supporters
"These dolts losing their mind over a satire piece is kinda perfect,” media critic observed
Journalist Molly Jong-Fast had to resort to calling the FBI because she began receiving death threats over a piece she published about deprogramming supporters of Donald Trump at Thanksgiving dinner.
Her call to the FBI is ironic for this bit from her article: “Maybe you will change a heart of mind. Or maybe you’ll need to report a relative to the FBI.”
“The most important part of the piece, you can actually get your relatives to take the vaccine if you share your experience with them,” tweeted Jong-Fast, posting an excerpt from her piece.
“these dolts losing their mind over a satire piece is kinda perfect,” tweeted media critic Eric Boehlert.
Meanwhile, economist David Rothschild noted another level of irony in the death threats Jong-Fast — daughter of renowned feminist Erica Jong — has been subjected to.
“Author writes thoughtful piece on why you should discuss politics w/ radicalized relatives, and Republican anti-cancel culture warriors flood her w/ death threats. Piece is good read https://newsletters.theatlantic.com/wait-what/619e50cedce0f300208d7288/deprogram-your-relatives-this-thanksgiving/… and makes me thankful that this is not a worry at my Thanksgiving table,” he wrote.
