Journalist: ‘Not Much of a Mystery’ Biden Will Announce Reelection in Early 2023
“I think it would take something very serious to cause him to change his mind about running again,” CBS News correspondent adds
President Biden will formally announce that he's seeking reelection within the first few months of the new year, according to a prominent TV network correspondent.
Biden, the oldest president in US history, has long indicated a predisposition towards running for a second term in 2024, but thus far as stepped short of an official announcement.
Although his poll numbers are not as high as they once were, the president has been buoyed in recent months by a number of policy and political wins, including results from November's midterm elections which were much more favorable towards Democrats than many once anticipated.
This will lead Biden towards soon making his candidacy official, Nancy Cordes, CBS News chief White House correspondent, said on-air Sunday.
“I predict that sometime in the first few months of 2023, President Biden will announce his bid for reelection. To me, it’s not much of a mystery,” Cordes said. “This is what he has wanted to do his entire adult life for the last 50 years, is to be president of the United States.
“He feels good about what he’s accomplished in his first two years, and I think it would take something very serious to cause him to change his mind about running again,” she added.
