Lauren Boebert Calls Last Week 'the Most Productive' She's Seen in Congress
Far-right congresswoman spins her role in protracted speaker's race
Where even fellow Republicans acknowledged the embarrassment and disarray of electing Kevin McCarthy as speaker on an astounding 15th ballot, Rep Lauren Boebert calls last week “the most productive week I've experienced in Congress.”
The Colorado Republican was among those 20 or so far-right members who — day after day — last week denied McCarthy the speaker's gavel until the 15th ballot in the wee hours of Saturday night.
It was the first time in a century that the House — led by either Democrats or Republicans — took longer than a single ballot to choose a presiding officer.
And all that messiness played out, in real-time and on live TV, for the nation to witness with increasing frustration.
Congress, meanwhile, was completely paralyzed during the debacle, unable to fulfill any other important functions.
Boebert, not surprisingly, sees what transpired very differently.
“The single-subject legislation and pieces that it we are going to see is something that we have in 47 state legislatures to have it on a federal level is massive,” she said, referring to one of the concessions the right-wing holdouts exacted from McCarthy before finally allowing him the needed votes. “So I am proud that we took out a few extra days to make sure we get this right, it may look like chaos and dysfunction but I am a mom of four boys that's a part of my everyday life.
“And really last week was the most productive week I've experienced in Congress,” she added in an appearance on Fox News.
