Like A Cancer, The Xenophobia of The Right Wing Spreads
Charlie Kirk calls Californians "locusts"
The xenophobia manifested among those on the political right is spreading in some frankly startling — and disturbing — ways.
In the nearly seven years since Donald Trump gave lease to some of the worst xenophobic impulses harbored by many Americans — beginning with his “total shutdown” of Muslim travel, a wall to supposedly curb undocumented immigration along the southern border and so much more — a number of other popular figures on the political right have eagerly picked up the former president's mantle of pitting person vs person; human being, against human being.
Recently, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia Republican best known for conspiracy theories and right-wing outrage, suggested — with no legal foundation to back her up — that “red states” dominated by the political right impose some sort of “cooling off” ban which would prevent recent Democrats who may have moved to a red from voting.
Now Charlie Kirk, another prominent figure among the right who has trafficked in white nationalism on his radio program, appears to have even doubled down on Greene’s hyperpartisan anti-Democratic tribalism.
Specifically, Kirk took aim at Californians, calling them “locusts,” and claiming that if they move to other states like Montana and Utah Democrats will “destroy” them.
“The people of Montana should say, ‘You’re not welcome here. Don’t bring your values and your Berkeley world view to this untouched slice of God’s country.’ They’re going to destroy Montana. They will. They’re good at it.
“The activist groups will infiltrate, the racial groups will — in fact, I think there are some good conservatives, like the wonderful governor of Montana, my friend, Governor [Greg] Gianforte. But if this is not addressed and this migration continues, they’re like locusts, they will not stop. San Francisco — destroyed. Montana — they’ll destroy that,” Kirk said. “Then they'll go to Utah, then they'll go to Nevada, then they'll go to Alaska. Whatever the last slice of heaven is, they will try to bring hell to it.”
