Madison Cawthorn Loses: One Down ...
In Congress full of Republican clowns, at least three more deserve to be defeated
In a more perfect world, Rep Madison Cawthorn's defeat for re-election Tuesday night would just be one loss in a string of 147 Republicans getting turned out of office as a consequence of their choice to back Donald Trump's attempted coup and their effort to defeat the legitimate and lawful certification of Joe Biden on January 6, 2021, as the next president of the United States.
Alas, sadly our country is far enough from perfect as to being ready to reelect the overwhelming majority of those seditious Republicans.
Still, with the 26-year-old North Carolinian going down in history as a one-term congressman, there are at least three more of Cawthorn's cohorts who truly deserve to be ousted, either by primary or the general election in November.
Who are these other Cawthorn co-stars in the congressional Hall of Shame?
Say “hello” to Republican Reps Lauren Boebert, of Colorado, Matt Gaetz, of Florida, and — the piece de resistance — Marjorie Taylor Greene, of Georgia.
This trio have much in common with fallen comrade, Cawthorn. They're all enamored of bizarre, right-wing conspiracy theories, racist and fascist policies, a penchant for making outrageous national headlines, and slavish devotion to Trump.
Something else this little cadre all share: they make plenty of time to attract all of this shocking and disgraceful attention because each and every one have essentially turned their backs on their home districts.
The folks back home have come to realize that they've basically been abandoned by their respective representatives, who would rather be raising their national profiles than actually doing the jobs they were elected to: which is representing and looking out for their voters in Congress.
This has helped translate into truly meager fundraising on the part of all three — four, if you include the defeated Cawthorn.
They raised a paltry net of $225,000 among the four of them, according to the popular Democratic YouTuber, Farron Cousins.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene and Madison Cawthorn are actually underwater. They spent more than they raised. Lauren Boebert has only $100,000 on hand,” Cousins reported in a recent video. “Matt Gaetz, he’s got a decent amount of money: He has a couple of million on hand, even though he had a horrible first quarter.”
Of the group, Boebert — who is facing a tough primary challenger despite her meager fundraising — is the one who is in the most trouble for reelection, according to Cousins.
However, all three deserve to be shown the exits just the same as their friend and colleague, Cawthorn.
Now’s the time. Blood is in the water. We need to step up and send all three of the other passengers of this particular clown car home, ASAP.
