Marjorie Taylor Greene Commits Perjury, Multiple Sources Allege
Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene committed multiple instances of perjury Friday, when she took the stand in a trial which aims to bar the Georgia Republican from running for reelection, according to multiple sources.
Greene testified on her own behalf in an Atlanta courtroom in a challenge that seeks to remove her from the ballot for her role prior to the deadly January 6, 2021, insurrection.
However, she lied repeatedly, under oath, according to several sources that fact-checked her testimony.
Voters and a supporting legal group are seeking to knock her off the ballot for her role prior to the riot.
Greene's appearance in an Atlanta court Friday makes her the first GOP member of Congress to testify publicly about January 6, in which violent supporters of Republican Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol Building in an attempt to block the lawful and legitimate election of Democrat Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.
A bipartisan House select committee also is examining the events surrounding the insurrection, including whether Republican lawmakers like Greene, aided the riot.
Trump, and his allies in the Republican Party, have been maintaining and spreading disinformation claiming that the 2020 presidential election was somehow “stolen” from Trump.
Multiple videos of Greene’s remarks about the election and the transfer of power to Biden, were entered into evidence in the Georgia case.
In one such video, Greene is seen saying, “You can't allow it to just transfer power 'peacefully' like Joe Biden wants, and allow him to become our president.”
In court Greene claims that was only a partial statement. But that is a lie, according to author and Democratic activist Scott Dworkin.
“This was unedited from start to finish. It’s clear what she meant. Its impossible for any sane person to think this changes the context,” he tweeted.
Guardian reporter Hugo Lowell caught in another alleged falsehood, when Greene said that she doesn’t recall speaking to anyone at the White House about January 6. Except she recorded a video outside the West Wing days before, saying: “We had a great planning session for January 6.”
And the anti-Trump, pro-democracy media organization Meidias Touch uncovered yet another alleged example of Greene’s dissembling.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene just said she doesn’t check her Twitter replies. We can confirm this is a lie. MTG blocked us after we replied to her, we sued her, and we settled for $10K in lawyer fees (which we donated to gun reform groups). Here’s her signature on our settlement,” the organization tweeted above a photo of Greene's signature.
Democratic podcaster and YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen sought to tweak the first-term congresswoman, when he tweeted, “Hey @RepMTG, perjury is a felony.”
