Media Organization Releases Ad Which Could 'Sack His Campaign'
Influencers praise video hitting Hershel Walker, which generated 100K views in its first hour
A “devastating” new ad could damage the effort by Republican Hershel Walker to defeat Democratic Sen Raphael Warnock in the closely watched Senate election in Georgia, according to those who head up the pro-democracy media organization behind the spot, which was released on social media Friday.
“The ad we are about to release about Herschel Walker may just sack his campaign,” tweeted Brett Meiselas, one of the co-founders of MeidasTouch.com, just prior to the ad going live.
Walker, a former pro football player for the NFL, just last month won the Republican nomination to take on Warnock, one of the Peach State Democrats to defeat Republican incumbents in the state's runoff election in January 2021.
Warnock this year must run for election to a full, six-year term.
“Herschel Walker’s run for Senate has highlighted not only his lack of qualifications, but the bizarre and dangerous things he has said and done,” MeidasTouch tweeted when they posted the ad.
Reaction to the ad, titled “#WalkerFumbles,” came fast and strong by Friday evening.
It generated some 100,000 views in the first hour and it was trending in the United States, according to MeidasTouch.
“I hope this video will end Herschel Walker’s career as a politician,” Meiselas tweeted.
Other prominent Democrats and influencers spread the ad among their followers, while praising its power.
“What’s scarier? The things Herschel Walker says and does? Or the fact that today’s @GOP thinks this man deserves a place in the US Senate? Every voter in #Georgia needs to see this,” tweeted The Daily Edge, which describes itself as a creator of anti-fascist content with more than 197,000 followers.
“Georgia!! This man CANNOT be in a Government position. He actually needs serious help. The Senate?? No,” tweeted actress Mo Collins.
“Game on. @MeidasTouch just released a brutal ad against Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker. This one is going to leave a mark,” tweeted PatriotTakes, a group of researchers monitoring and exposing right-wing extremism and other threats to democracy.
