‘Minnesota’s Not Your Normal State’: James Comer Takes Desperate Swing at Tim Walz
Republican takes aim at an entire US state
If you want to know what the growing desperation of Republicans sounds like, it sounds like Rep James Comer’s Friday appearance on Fox Business.
Allies of Donald Trump, like Comer, are increasingly freaking out as Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign surges further and further past Trump’s.
So Comer, the Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee and known mostly for his morally bankrupt and politically impotent failed attempt to impeach President Biden, tried to take a bizarre swipe at Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Gov Tim Walz.
A former high school football coach and 24-year veteran of the Army National Guard, Walz’s Midwestern appeal has helped propel the Harris-Walz ticket to the front of nearly all public opinion polls ahead of November’s presidential election.
Republicans, however, have been struggling to land any effective political attacks on either Harris or Walz.
So Comer tried what might could be charitably called a unique approach to criticizing Walz … by impugning his entire state.
“Minnesota is not your normal state ... you have a huge population of residents in Minnesota that have come from other countries and have very different ideologies that don't really respect capitalism,” he said.
Of course, it was — to borrow a word that's lately been growing in popularity — a weird put down, to be sure.
As a number of people have commented online, Minnesota is home to such hotbeds of socialism as 3M, Medtronic and Target.
Not to mention the potential for Comer’s jibe to offend Republicans who call the North Star State home.
After all, Minnesota’s congressional delegation is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans. And the Democrats’ majority in the state senate is a by a single member.
All of which only demonstrates how not only desperate — but nonsensical — Comer’s swipe really was.
